Lead Coach, Junior & Senior Groups
The Southwest Aquatic Team (SWAT) is a year-round USA Swimming competitive swim team offering high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities and an affiliation with a non-competitive “Swim America” program. SWAT prides itself on creating a positive environment and enriching experience for all members of the club with the goal to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming and life skills and achieve success at their level of ability, from novice to elite-level competitor.
Under the supervision of the Competitive Program Director, the Lead Coach of the Junior and Senior Groups is responsible for the leadership and direction of SWAT’s Junior and Senior groups ensuring that all aspects of the program fulfill the mission, vision, and goals of the team.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Coaching:
- Serve as the lead coach of our Junior and Senior Red and Blue groups and attend and oversee all scheduled practices, meets, and the team awards dinner unless precluded by illness, or excused with prior permission.
- Create full-season training plans for stroke technique progression, training progression, dryland, and taper strategies for your assigned groups.
- Manage meet entries for athletes in assigned groups.
- Maintain effective communication with coaches, swimmers, and families of objectives and goals for athletes.
- Work with athletes, coaches, and parents to ensure that athlete development plans are created, and timelines are understood and supported.
hold goal meeting with interested athletes / families - Educate and guide athletes interested in swimming in college.
- Submit monthly coaches reports as well as meet reports in a timely manner.
Leadership:
- Lead our team’s mission and philosophy to empower swimmers of all ages and abilities to become the best they can be through continued personal and athletic growth.
- Act all times with integrity and as a positive representative of SWAT to the membership and the community at large.
- Foster a culture of team unity among staff, swimmers, and families.
- Collaborate with competitive program director and lead coaching staff to provide continuity and training progressions across all training groups.
- Maintain and increase overall club participation, including participation at the highest levels of the sport. (i.e., Wisconsin State Championships, NCSA Championships, Speedo Sectionals, etc.).
- Touch base with the Program Director monthly via email, a phone call, a video call, or an in person meeting.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Competitive Program Director and/or Board of Directors
Other Responsibilities:
- Submit timecards and mileage reports as required.
- Adhere to the SWAT coaches code of conduct.
- Maintain continuing communication with families on a weekly basis.
- Be available for all meetings with the Coaching Staff and Board members as required and requested
- Help plan and participate in the end-of-the-year awards dinner
- Complete other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Competitive Program Director and/or Board of Directors in order to meet 30-40 hours per week expectation.
Requirements
- Five-plus years of coaching excellence at the Senior level (club/high school/YMCA) that features tangible improvement by elite and developmental swimmers preferred. Less experienced candidates will be considered.
- Member in good standing with USA Swimming and current on all certifications.
- Extensive background in competitive swimming, stroke mechanics, and understanding of USAS rules and regulations.
- Prior experience in a leadership role of training, managing, and developing assistant coaches is preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational skills, and motivational skills with a strong sense of personal integrity.
- Track record of fostering a culture of team unity among swimmers, parents and staff.
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning training, dryland, and functional movement.
- Enthusiasm for continuing coaching education.
- Legal authority to work in the USA without sponsorship with a valid driver’s license.
- Experience using Team Unify, Hy-Tek, and Meet Manager preferred.
