The Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery is recruiting for an open rank, collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the area of pediatric surgery. The faculty member will support the general surgical practice of the division and establish a clinical practice. The division also supports many sub-specialty pediatric surgery programs and development of and participation in these programs is encouraged and can be discussed and supported dependent on candidate’s interest. The faculty member will also support the division with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The American College of Surgeons has verified CHoR as a Level 1 pediatric trauma center, Level 1 burn center and a Level 1 children’s surgery center.CHoR is one of only 10 children’s hospitals on the East Coast to be verified as a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons – a testament to the care delivered by our expert, compassionate team every day. We’re also the only hospital in Central Virginia with pediatric anesthesiologists and surgeons available 24/7, which is especially important for the smallest and sickest children. As a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, our team is prepared to handle any illness or injury – at any time.
More than 6,700 families turned to the surgery team at CHoR to care for their children last year. Almost 4,500 operations were performed at CHoR last year ranging from straightforward cases to advanced robotic, bariatric, and reconstructive operations in neonates and children of all ages. CHoR has surgical specialists across all areas of care including cardiac, general and thoracic surgery, ENT, orthopedics, neurosurgery, urology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, OMFS, and ophthalmology.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching: The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of pediatric surgery.
Research:This position will require the establishment of a successful research program in partnership with other disciplines which will lead to independent funding as an investigator.
Clinical: The faculty will establish a successful clinical practice in the field of general pediatric surgery with subspecialty program development and participation as desired. Clinical responsibilities may also involve shared time between VCU and affiliated community hospitals.
Other: The faculty member will serve on departmental, and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Must be board certified/board eligible in general surgery and pediatric surgery
- Completion of ACGME approved fellowship in pediatric surgery
- Ability to work in a complex matrixed environment with high emotional intelligence
- Commitment to teaching and practice in an academic setting
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required
