Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a full-time General Physiatrist. This position involves both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. We have a highly engaged and collegial team contributing to advance our Hennepin Healthcare vision of providing “Exceptional Care without Exception”. Candidates with interest in neurorehabilitation is encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inpatient care will involve performing hospital consultations in the intensive care unit and general medical floor at our Level I Trauma Center and acute care hospital)
- Outpatient responsibilities involve providing care for a wide variety of patients with musculoskeletal, spine conditions, and neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, acquired brain injury), as well as amputation and providing continuity of care for patients who were discharged from our acute inpatient rehabilitation.
- Candidates with interest or experience in procedures such as joint injections, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and botulinum toxin injections for spasticity management are welcomed
- Opportunities available for involvement in medical student and resident education, as well as clinical research.
- May be requested to have or be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Minnesota
- Call responsibility averages 1:6-8 weeks covering inpatient rehabilitation.
In 2024, the TBI Outpatient Program at Hennepin Healthcare became the first organization in the world to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as a Concussion Specialty Program for Adolescents & Adults. The Program has also been accredited by CARF for its Interdisciplinary Brain Injury Specialty Program for Adolescents & Adults since 2017. These honors underscore the high quality and evidence-based care we’ve been consistently providing for decades.
The Knapp Rehabilitation Center at Hennepin Healthcare is an inpatient specialty program serving adolescent and adult patients with a wide range of conditions, including (but not limited to) traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries, stroke, multiple trauma, spinal cord injury, burns, amputation, and other neurological disorders. Located within our 18-bed acute rehabilitation unit, Knapp provides comprehensive, high-quality care. In 2023, Knapp began a partnership with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab—the nation's top-ranked rehabilitation hospital—to expand Hennepin Healthcare’s rehabilitation services, emphasizing excellence, teamwork, and collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess (or be eligible for) a current unrestricted license to practice Medicine in the State of Minnesota
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- If Board Eligible, must be Board Certified within 4 years from the date of completion of the applicable residency, fellowship or training program
- Current D.E.A. Certificate or be eligible for certificate
- Current hospital credentials
- Current Life Support Certification or complete course within 2 months of hire

- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and families, treatment team members and staff, referring parties and hospital leadership
