- Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Imaging
Description
The Department of Cardiology within the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking a
highly skilled and experienced leader in cardiovascular imaging to become the founding Director of the
Division of Cardiovascular Imaging
As the Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Imaging, you will provide visionary leadership for the
establishment of one of the nation’s most comprehensive cardiovascular imaging programs. In this role, you
will oversee and continually advance the full spectrum of imaging services — including echocardiography,
cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, and nuclear cardiology. You will lead a highly skilled multidisciplinary team of
physicians, sonographers, technologists, nurses, and administrative staff, ensuring the seamless integration
of cutting-edge imaging with world-class patient care. Your leadership will be central to driving innovation,
maintaining the highest standards of diagnostic excellence, and optimizing operational performance across
the entire imaging enterprise. Our current cardiovascular imaging sections and non-invasive
echocardiography laboratory have a reputation for excellence in clinical care and research and have
undergone enormous growth with our associated clinical cardiovascular programs. The visionary leader will
have the opportunity to broaden and grow these sections and create new ones to encompass all disciplines
of cardiovascular imaging.
Cardiovascular imaging at Cedars-Sinai is a large and vibrant program that spans the main CSMC campus as
well as affiliated sites. The Non-Invasive Echocardiography Laboratory alone performs more than 64,000
procedures each year — including transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, stress
echocardiography, fetal imaging, and intracardiac studies — and is supported by 18 faculty
echocardiographers, 43 sonographers, and a dedicated team of fellows, and other allied health professionals.
In addition, the Cardiac Imaging Center performs over 20,000 studies annually and includes five faculty with
expertise in cardiac imaging, two faculty with advanced training in congenital cardiac imaging, and a
multitude of faculty engaged in research collaborations across multiple disciplines. This depth of clinical
expertise and academic collaboration ensures comprehensive imaging capabilities for both adult and
congenital populations. Furthermore, members of the imaging faculty have joint affiliations and leadership
roles in the Cedars-Sinai Biomedical Imaging Research Institute (BIRI), which has established master and
doctorate level training programs and whose faculty ranks include world-renowned scientists in advanced
biomedical imaging.
The Director will be responsible for guiding the growth of the entire Cardiovascular Imaging portfolio. The
role includes fostering excellence in echocardiography, cardiac CT, MRI, and nuclear cardiology, and
promoting collaboration across modalities to strengthen clinical integration. The Director will play an active
role in selecting lab and section leaders and advancing research in cardiovascular imaging, mentoring fellows
and junior faculty, and ensuring Cedars-Sinai continues to train and inspire the next generation of leaders in
the field. Depending on interests and expertise, the position may also include direct participation in
outpatient and/or inpatient clinical care.
The Smidt Heart Institute is widely recognized as a leader in the delivery of cardiovascular care and a pioneer
in the development of new treatments and diagnostic tools. Since 2018, Cedars-Sinai Cardiology/Cardiac
Surgery was rated in the top three nationally in U.S. News and World Report Top Hospitals. The Department
of Cardiology is one of the largest departments within the Cedars-Sinai Health System with over 170 faculty
and has world renowned programs in cardiovascular imaging, advanced heart disease, interventional
cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, women’s health, hypertension, and regenerative medicine.
Qualifications:
- Medical Degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification with the ABIM in Cardiovascular Disease.
- Eligibility for an unrestricted California medical license.
- Formal advanced training and demonstrated expertise in at least two cardiac imaging modalities
(echocardiography, CT, MRI, or nuclear cardiology) is strongly preferred. - Eligible for appointment at the Professor level.
- Established track record of excellence in clinical practice, research, and program leadership.
