Description
The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia is seeking qualified anesthesiologists with interest and expertise in a variety of clinical areas to join our team. This full-time role offers the opportunity to practice in a high-acuity academic medical center, contribute to perioperative planning, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient care. Faculty members also participate in teaching residents, fellows, SRNAs, and medical students, with opportunities for academic involvement through lectures, conferences, and scholarly activity. The Department of Anesthesia is seeking faculty members for appointment on the Clinical or Tenure Track at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank, depending on qualifications. Appointment at the rank of Instructor (non-track) may also be considered.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Participating in team-based anesthesia care and personally providing anesthesia care
- Serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating for effective patient outcomes.
- Active participation in the academic activities of the Department and College of Medicine.
- Supervising students, residents, fellows, SRNA’s and non-anesthesia rotators.
- Providing developmental feedback to those under supervision, verbally and in writing.
- Preparing educational materials, leading and/or attending academic lectures and professional development events.
- Research activities are encouraged, though participation is not required for continued employment or promotion.
Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirements
Qualified candidates must show successful completion of an approved residency program in anesthesiology.
Candidates must hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must be eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa.
Candidates must be board-certified in Anesthesiology (or non-US Board equivalent) or be in the certification process (pending completion of residency or fellowship). On occasion, individuals trained outside of the United States who are certified by an equivalent national certification group may be considered.
Certification Requirements
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
Desirable Qualifications
Fellowship training or equivalent clinical experience in any of the subspecialty areas.
Interest in teaching and/or basic or clinical research.
