The Brown – RIH Comprehensive Epilepsy Program (CEP):
We provide tertiary level epilepsy care and serve all of Rhode Island and surrounding communities in MA and CT. RIH is an ~800-bed hospital, including the 87-bed Hasbro Children’s Hospital (HCH) with an 18-bed NCCU, a comprehensive stroke center and a level 1 trauma center. Ours is the only site in the region with in-patient LTM services as well as 24-7 neurosurgical care. We have thriving Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship programs (3 per year). Our CEP currently includes 4 adult and 2 pediatric epileptologists, 2 adult and 1 pediatric epilepsy neurosurgeons, plus an allied group of 5 CNP-trained colleagues, and expert and highly collaborative neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, neuroradiology, nursing, and genetics colleagues.
The RIH and HCH EEG labs perform over 6500 studies per year. We also interpret EEGs for another Brown-affiliate, The Miriam Hospital (~1000 studies per year). Our CEP offers the gamut of surgical options including sEEG methods, LITT, resections, and all forms of neuromodulation. At RIH, we have a newly renovated adult EMU, 3T MRI, fMRI, and PET imaging, Wada testing, and epilepsy focused neuropsychology, including a new tailored neuropsychology fellowship track emphasizing epilepsy applications. We have a vibrant adult neurology residency program, now 7 residents per year, which is highly integrated with our care and teaching efforts. We have 3 per month adult and pediatric surgical planning conferences and weekly fellowship didactic conferences.
